UGResearch: Explained
Presentation on the basics of UGResearch (PowerPoint)

A non-profit website dedicated to the belief that undergraduate research can be provocative, innovative, and capable of furthering academic discourse.

Young Alumni created this electronic library with the goal of advancing independent research at the undergraduate level. Currently undergraduate work rarely leaves the institution at which it is written. Since there is no comprehensive list of undergraduate works, students may well repeat the same research conducted by their peers at other schools the year before. This leads to repetition and stagnation. As there are over one million undergraduate students in the United States alone, this is a significant source of lost work.

The Undergraduate Research Electronic Library solves these problems by providing a comprehensive catalogue of undergraduate research. Students may now search the Library to determine if other students have worked on similar projects and use past theses as a platform from which to base new research.

The Library has other uses as well. For example, professors can use the Database to search for research assistants with similar interests and public policy firms can use the content to identify potential employees. Ideas are a terrible thing to waste, and this library will insure that, at the very least, the great works of our college students are accessible and protected.

UGResearch.org was started by two alumni of Dartmouth College who feel that undergraduate research is a valuable resource that should be made available to the world. Although alumni from one school started the website, the success of the project depends on a collaborative effort by the students and alumni of colleges around the world. As a non-profit enterprise, the only goal of the website is to further academic research; in order to achieve this goal, we need your help. Creating a comprehensive database of undergraduate research will require a grass-roots effort, with students taking the lead. If you believe in the value of undergraduate research, email your friends about UGResearch, invite people through the website, mention it to your professors and administrators. With your initiative, undergraduate research could become a standard research tool, used by academics and think tanks around the world.
